We're building the alternative to plastic — materials grown from nature, certified compostable, and designed to restore soil rather than destroy it. No small print. No compromise.

Hundreds of billions of dollars invested in recycling infrastructure over 50 years. Yet only 9% of all plastic ever produced has been recycled*. 98% is manufactured from fossil fuels**. Single-use plastics take an estimated 20 to 500 years to fragment*** — and they never fully mineralise, persisting as microplastics in soils, waterways, and living organisms. Peer-reviewed research is establishing links between microplastic exposure and adverse health outcomes in humans, animals, and soil ecosystems****.

The alternative materials that could replace plastic have historically carried a significant cost premium — slowing industry transition and limiting commercial viability. That is the market gap Marvellous Materials was built to close.

Plastic Recycling has failed

Compostable. Circular. No excuses.

We are developing a range of certified compostable, bio-based materials designed to compete on cost with conventional fossil-derived plastics — removing the primary barrier to meaningful industry adoption.

Our model goes beyond material substitution. Through our parent group, we will trial an integrated end-of-life system: compostable packaging enters the food waste stream, is converted to biogas for energy recovery, and the residual process waste becomes biochar — a validated carbon store and soil amendment.

This is a full closed-loop model, designed to scale, with soil remediation as a measurable output not an afterthought.

Our FOUNDER

Liz sauer williamson

As the co-founder of Löwenzahn Organics, every packaging conversation started the same way safety & compliance first, ideally no plastic. What followed was an endless series of trade-offs, each one a paper cut to good intentions. Recyclable sounded right until you read the statistics.

The problem wasn't a lack of care. It was a lack of real options.

That's why Marvellous Materials exists. Our mission is to bring grown materials to market at scale: packaging that is certified compostable, a soil benefit, and fossil-free. Not a niche workaround. Not at a painful premium. A real alternative to plastic.
