Hemp

No, not that kind :) Fast growing and remarkably versatile. Hemp absorbs twice as much CO2 as trees over the same period, while its growth cycle is just 3–4 months versus 20–80 years for timber. It can absorb half its own weight in moisture, making it ideal for humid packaging conditions. As it grows, it aerates the soil — making it a natural fit for crop rotation on compacted farmland. Hemp-based paper can be recycled 7–8 times compared to 3–4 times for tree-based equivalents, and requires zero bleaching. We are investigating hemp-based netting and ties for fruit and vegetable packaging — replacing plastic at the point where it is most visible and most wasted.
